Riverstone Leaves Social Media

Updated: Jan 25, 2019

As of October 30, 2018 we will no longer maintain a social media presence.

Research is emerging about how social media and extended use of electronics is detrimental to the cognitive development, social, and emotion well-being of children and adults. Statistics showing that social media and teen depression go hand in hand are alarming. We do not want to contribute to this epidemic.

We recommend you learn more about this topic. To read our sources and to begin your search, please check out “Looking for Likes” by Newport Academy, Online Social Networking & Mental Health from the National Institute of Health, and “Social Media & Teens: How Does Social Media Affect Teenagers’ Mental Health” by Psycom. The clinical study is also available, “Use of multiple social media platforms and symptoms of depression and anxiety: A nationally-representative study among U.S. young adults.”

The decision to discontinue our Facebook and Instagram accounts was thoughtfully made. We know that it is a radical departure from the usual practices of organizations which use social media for networking and marketing purposes. But then, that’s what Riverstone School is: A radical change from the status quo.
