Holistic

Yoga and meditation. Students enjoy yoga and meditation first thing in the morning and right after lunch/recess. After each session students return to the classroom feeling grounded and with positive energy.

Guide Word Practice. Students are given a guide word journal with high-frequency words that foster social-emotion skills and a buoyant spirit.

Crystals are one of the holistic tools students are given to improve all aspects of their lives.

Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils are diffused throughout the day. Students learn about the health properties of essential oils and take turns being responsible for their diffusion.

Herbal tea is available to the students all day. They learn about the herbs and their uses as well.

Organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free and low glycemic snacks and lunches are provided to the students every day.

Approach

Interdisciplinary education blends a variety of disciplines into a single lesson, enabling students multiple approaches to learning.

Place-Based. A student needs to know where they are at to know where they are going.

Experiential. Students enjoy an active and collaborative educational experience that incorporates hands-on, project-based learning and community engagement.

Kinesthetic learning is a multi-sensory approach which fully engages the student in the learning process.

Learning Environment

Peer to peer. Students work with each other to build on existing strengths and develop new skills through a frequent interchange of thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Collaborative. Collaboration among students, teachers, disciplines and community creates a dynamic learning environment.

Mixed ages. Classrooms are organized with students from mixed ages to encourage mentoring, collaboration and learning opportunities.

Curriculum

No grades. Grades can be demeaning and create a system of unnecessary competition among students.

No testing. Test results are not accurate indicators of student growth.

Narrative feedback provides an authentic representation of student learning from the perspective of both teacher and student.

Maps. The educational maps of GroWiseBeWell, rooted in the humanities, guide students through their learning journey.
